another person and that's when the group attacked him. >> he was trying to be and good samaritan. the group assaulting the original male attacked the good samaritan. he had four knife wounds to his stomach. they were able to stabilize, both the attackers and the first victim ran around before officers arrived on the scene. they have no suspects in the case. a man accused of stacking a dodgers fan is out of jail this morning. he was released last night. right now prosecutors say there's not enough evidence to charge him for the death. the 24-year-old jonathan denver. they're reviewing montgomery's claim that he was assaulted during an altercation and the stabbing was in self denver. but, his family says he is a gentle person and he was the victim. >> they were going to get in

the vehicle. a giants fan made happen comment, comments were ex changed and an altercation broke out. >> they're asking any witnesses who saw that fight to come forward in the next half-hour. the general manager talks about fan violence. there was a scuffle between an officer and carjacking suspect and it may have saved the officer from getting hurt. a lexus was carjacked with man armed with a gun. it crashed on east 28th street and the driver tried to run when a neighbor noticed that the car was starting to roll. >> when the car was moving, that's when i started to worry about, one of them, you know because he was just right there and the car was still moving. >> he was able to stop that car to prevent it from hitting anyone and the officer was able

to stop the brake and the driver and along with one of of the driver's passengers. a parade set off along the golden bring and we have a look at all the festivities. good morning, natalie. >> reporter: up until 5 minutes ago this was a see of pink. there's 2,000 people who signed up for this avon walk for breast cancer. they're cleaning things up. but the day is just beginning for 2,000 people taking part in this event. this is kathy wall from san jose. tell us about your team here. you have a lot of people. >> we have our north carolina representative. we have five new walkers, this is my 11th year. >> i have too many friends and

family who have had breast cancer. look at my back. >> you've got at least -- >> marina and donna passed away since my daughters were in high school. i knew them before kindergarten. i do it for me and other women so they don't have to go through this. >> you have done this 11 times. what's the mind set. >> it's total bonding. i have people who are excited about it. my neighbors see me walking around wearing pink all the time. >> you raise money? >> we raised $15,000. isn't that amazing? we're proud of these girls. >> thank you very much. good luck. thanks for stopping to talk with us and have a great time. 2,000 people have signed up for this san francisco walk. you can see them heading out. we delayed them just a little bit so they could stop and talk

a 14-year-old boy is being called a hero for stopping an attempted abduction of a 18- year-old girl in texas. a group of students were waiting for a school bus when a

masked man grabbed a girl by the arm and started dragging her across the street. the 14-year-old boy went to rescue her and he was stabbed in the shoulder. the 14-year-old was treated at the hospital and the man was arrested. he was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping. they believe he's related to the girl he tried to kidnap. the red cross is recognizing people who make a difference through courage and kindness. they honored a police sergeant who stopped a robber on bart while on his way to get a marriage license, also honored was laura a graham who collects clothes for teenagers. we have listed them and their achievements at ktvu.com under

web links. look for swimmers in the waters around alcatraz this morning. there's the rock, it is the alcatraz classic swim to the island. they're holding a swim too from alcatraz to san francisco. it's to raise money and awareness about the importance of swimming. and three visually impaired swimmers are headed from arizona to san francisco to swim in the alcatraz invitational. these three people are members of the first blind team to compete in the event. they'll volume cited guides to help them tackle the challenges of swimming without vision. >> there's more uncertainty, how far do i have left to go and how far have i gone. >> direction, keeping a straight line. >> they're not strangers to

great adventures. the two climbed kilimanjaro several years ago. this 15-year-old has retinal disease that claimed 3/4 of his vision. they raised the swim to raise money for no barriers usa that helps people overcome challenges. a global basketball competition is being held out on the rock. this will be the first official sporting event at the prison since its closure. red bull is hosting the competition called king of the rock. it will feature 64 finalists. 20us qualifiers will play. the competition is one on one basketball games in the past two years. they've driven home the title. 7:24 not a bad day to play

police say a man suffering from a gunshot wound was driven in that audi after that shooting. it took place on third and lasalle at 8 p.m. last night. they were trying to rob a reporter when his security guard opened fire. the news crew were not hurt. two female customers were slipped a date rape drug and sexually assaulted. both women were with friends on different nights this month. according to police, the next thing the women remember was waking up the next day, one in her bed and the other in a hotel room, police say they had been sexually assaulted, apparently by someone who slipped a powerful sedative into their drinks and went unnoticed in the crowd. >> i don't think it takes a lot. you know how you stick together in a bar somewhere, someone could drop it off or hey, let me buy you a drink, dump it in

valdez at random, but the suspect's family say they're in disbelief. >> i do not believe it, you know. i don't see him. he go to school. >> this individual went out hunting that night? and unfortunately, this was the wrong place and at the wrong time. >> the charges include murder, assault with a firearm and an assault rifle which is illegal in california because of an altered hand grip and he's accused of holding a gun to a student and that person escaped and called police. >> a toddler was hit by a suv while chaseing a ball has died. she died thursday, she was being treated at oakland children's hospital. police say the toddler ran into the street after a ball when she was hit. the driver stopped and it appears to be at that tragic accident. police have identified the pedestrians who was the victim

of a deadly hit and run in atherton. he was found 200 yards around from his body. the atherton police department is asking for the public's help to find the driver responsible for his death. 16 million in damage is settlemented for the fire burning in yolo county. this sh in hay kingdom. the fire started thursday night and the cause is under investigation. the flames were fueled by 20,000 tons of hay and fueled by winds in yolo county. >> the size and the magnitude, you don't see it every day. >> they export hay to asia to feed dairy and beef cows.

there are hay stacks untouched by fire and the goal right now is to keep it that way. san francisco firefighters say this fire may take months before it goes out. it broke out on carol avenue. gas and heat demonstrated by the compost ignited the fire and old construction material is also fueling it. crews will stay on scene as long as the flames are smouldering. a group of volunteers will clean up a camp ground. it's located between the sign center and roberts park on skyline boulevard. it makes it available for anyone in the city serving children. the pastor of a church organized today's cleanup because the camp ground is run down due to lack of funding. a thousand children will get the chance to put their best foot forward. there will be a shoe give away at the oracle and coliseum.

scattered showers especially over the parts of the north bay. it won't happen today, but we turn cloudier and temperatures drop off and scattered showers falling over some areas. you can see washington and oregon getting scattered showers. we're dealing with pretty nice weather. we still have the sunny skies overhead. we'll continue to see that for today and our temperatures again rebound to be the 70s around the bay, low 80s for some of our warmer locations inland and along the coast mostly sunny skies for the pacific festival, the fall festival today. notice the low clouds, they begin to push back to the coast. so, by this evening we'll have this, mostly sunny elsewhere into the overnight hours, we begin to turn cloudier over the north bay. perhaps waking up in san jose, gray skies tomorrow morning and a, of course who the coastline.

look at the rain, it's moving into northern california. it stays there most of the day. notice the bay area didn't pick up anything, right here had the north edge of santa rosa, it's picking up a few scattered showers, we continue with this pattern. we have scattered showers over the north bay, down along the coastline and for monday afternoon more of the same, so a very slim chance for scattered showers for the central and south bay, a better chance here, we're looking from a tenth of an inch to quarter of an inch for parts of the north bay sunday night into monday night. right now, the big story, how chilly it is out there. 44 in fairfield, 44 in santa rosa, 50 degrees in san raphael, low 50s in antioch. the temperatures will be warming. we're talking about 80 degrees.

it's mid to upper 70s, oakland, 74 in oakland. low 80s for livermore, 79 in walnut creek. good looking and good feeling weather. san jose 80 degrees. 79 for sunnyvale. 80 degrees redwood city, mid to upper 60s along the coast for sunny skies. the extended forecast here, again clouds increasing as early as tomorrow morning. we have temperatures dropping off for the afternoon. coolest day will be monday, maybe a few scattered showers, we're drying out tuesday into wednesday. >> people in colorado are having trouble to find a new place to stay. a company called housing helpers have stepped trying to find places for people to rent. they said supply was down before the flooding began. some people can't afford the

rising cost of rent and do not want to commit to a long-term lease. >> it's been a challenge to find housing for these people because they're not sure how long they'll need a property for. >> some people have been staying in the hotel since the flooding but next weekend they'll be able to relocate again because all of those rooms were booked for the upcoming game. a judge lifted an injunction to preserve a program which provides rooms to families who lost everything in the storm. but, that program could end monday when the federal emergency management agency said it will stop reimbursing the city for the program. it's spent $70 million on housing evacuees. people housed by sandy said it could hamper recovery efforts. nature brought in the storm but humans could make the disaster

welcome back, a live look at san francisco over the bay. it's a calm crisp start to the morning. temperatures raging from low 40s to low 50s. a period of -- a group of pink walking through san francisco. you're taking a live look at one of the rest stops, a quick stop for people in washington square park in the city's north beach area. it's the 11th and you'll walk out there. they have a ways to go. they have a marathon or a marathon and a half between for the mason and -- fort mason. there will be a wellness village. i can hear them cheering. that means they're coming close. it will be all set up to

support the walkers. the walk supports the search for a cure to breast cancer. they're drawing complaints at alamo square. that he drive by the victorian houses called the painted ladies. they're considering the ban on the buses to stop them traveling or traveling without stopping. this morning a high speed chase and deadly crash in the east bay remains under investigation. it happened outside the clayton regency trailer park on marsh creek road. deputies say the dispute went on for seven miles before the driver lost control and hit a tree. >> the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, and two others were taken by helicopter to john myre medical center.

those two were in critical condition. it's not clear whether they'll face any charges. the driver's identity is being withheld until they notify their next of kin. the fire broke out in the basement of a three story home and it claimed three people. chloe authored-year-old died at the hospital and the grandmother passed away. the child's mother escaped with minor injuries. lightning sparked the fire which was fueled by monsoon storm winds. the death toll was the high first responder an us wildfire in the last half century. independent team from florida will turn in its review of fire

fighting procedures and logistics, but it will not assign blame. another earthquake has hit southwest pakistan after days a major earthquake killed 350 people there. the newest earthquake was a 6.8 magnitude which happened a few hours ago. on tuesday a larger 7.7 magnitude quake destroyed every mud and brick house in the area. today's quake was an after shock and more may come during the next few weeks. kenya's interior minister, authorities are detaining 18 in connection with be the terror attack as investigators searched through the debris to piece together what happened. security forces trying to end the attack may have killed some hostages. a three story hole at the mall may have been created by

theory cheerleaders who are ready to encourage some of the people walking this 40-mile two- day walk, a marathon for some a half marathon for others. there are about five miles into the avon walk for breast cancer route. it's 26 miles today h people are crossing this street here. once they get some encouragement at the corner they'll stop and take a break and continue on their way. a host of 2,000 people, they started out at just before 7:00 this morning. it raised more than $4 million this weekend. that money will go towards breast cancer research and resources. >> early detection is what saved my life, and this particular walk goes for its early detection, mammography and so what a great way to give back. i want other women to survive

on golden gate. he was driving down golden day when he saw ten people beating up another person. he pulled over and tried to help and that's when a group started attacking him. >> he was trying to be a good samaritan and the group that was assaulting the original male then assaulted the good samaritan. police say the good samaritan is in his 30s, he was transported to the hospital with four knife rooms to his stomach. doctors were able to stabilize him. the attackers and first victim ran away when they came on the scene. a man has died after being hit on interstate 280. he reports that man was not in a car, but on foot. the car reportedly hit him on southbound 280. that man was in his 30s, his name was not released. we do not know why the man was walking along the interstate or if the driver involved will face any charges. a man accused of a fatal

stabbing is out of jail this morning. 21-year-old michael was released last night. prosecutors say he there's not enough evidence to charge him for the death of jonathan denver. investigators are saying they're reviewing montgomery's claim that he was assaulted during the stabbing last night. they say denver was a gentle person and he was the victim. >> they were going to get into their vehicle, a giants panel made and -- fan made a comment and comments were exchanged and an altercation probing out. >> they're asking anyone who witnessed or took pictures or videos of that fight to come forward. 42 recruits came out of the police academy, some say the officers may not be sticking around for long. >> and they are decide to raise concern about "obamacare,"

volunteer cheerleaders out here. you can see them waving their flags, encouraging people along the way. once people reach this point, they come out here to take a break, take a breather, take pictures, get some water, get a few snacks, then they continue their way down the route. now, 2000 people have signed up for the avon walk for breast cancer here in the bay area, and they have been, so far, they have raised $4 million this weekend. fund-raising efforts, that money, according to organizers will go towards breast cancer research and resources for people in need. >> the majority of the money that is raised here this weekend will stay in the bay area, which is really nice for people to know the money they worked so hard to raise is having an effect in their own community. >> reporter: now, the program director here says every three minutes, someone in the u.s. is diagnosed with breast cancer. we talked to many people who are personally involved in this issue. they say they were very motivated to get involved in this walk. >> it's definitely a good

chance for me to reflect upon my mom. that's the main reason i do it. i think it's important for people to be aware of breast cancer, to support causes that they believe in. >> reporter: now, once they reach this point at washington square park, people go on to lafayette, golden gate bridge, heading into sausalito, and then they set up camp for the night. it's 26 miles today, a full marathon length today. some people will be continuing to walk again tomorrow, another 13 miles. so it's a long weekend for the people involved, but everyone here says there's a lot of excitement, lot of energy, and a lot of passion for this cause. people are obviously very excited, very happy to be here. live in san francisco, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. new this morning, san francisco police have just updated us on the stabbing of a good samaritan. it happened about 4:30 this morning at hyde and golden gate, near san francisco's city hall. officers say the good samaritan

was driving down golden gate, when he saw a group of people beating up another person. he pulled over and tried to help, but then the group started attacking him. they also vandalized his car. we're told they slashed his tires. the victim was rushed to the hospital, with four knife wounds to his stomach, but is expected to survive. both attackers and the first victim ran away before officers arrived on scene. well, the man accused in the fatal stabbing of a dodgers fan near at&t park is out of jail this morning. 21-year-old michael montgomery of lodi was released last night. prosecuters say there's not enough evidence to charge him for the death of 24-year-old jonathan denver. investigators say they are reviewing montgomery's claim that he was assaulted during the altercation wednesday night and that the stabbing was in self-defense. but denver's family says he was a gentle person and claimed he was the victim. >> none of them were fighters. they were going to get into their vehicle. a giants fan made a comment.

comments were exchanged and an altercation broke out. >> investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed or took pictures or video of the fight to come forward. a toddler who was hit by an suv while chasing after a ball in pittsburgh has died. the family of 2-year-old amanda donald says she died on thursday. she was being treated at oakland children's hospital. police say the toddler ran into the street after a ball monday, when she was hit. officers say the driver stopped and it appears to just be a tragic accident. well, police have identified the pedestrian who was the victim of a deadly hit and run crash in atherton, identified as 60-year-old jeffrey alan seamon. his shoe was found 200 yards away from his body near middlefield road. the police department is asking for the public's help to find the driver responsible for his death. police say an oakland man jumped into action during a scuffle between an officer and a car jacking suspect and may have saved that officer from getting hurt. it all started with the pursuit

of a lexus last night. police say it had been carjacked by a man believed to be armed with a gun. the car crashed at east 28th street and 19th avenue. the driver tried to run and was struggling with an officer when a neighbor noticed the car was starting to roll. >> when the car was moving, that's when i started to worry about. one of them, you know, because he was just right there and the car was still moving. >> well, he stopped the car to prevent it from hitting anyone. the officer was able to set the brake and arrest the driver along with one of the driver's passengers. happening today, a huge raid is planned in mountain view. police say they do expect that a lot of young people going will be using drugs and say all they can really do is urge them to be safe. the beyond wonderland electronic dance music festival will be held at the shoreline amphitheater today and tomorrow. police expect so-called party drugs, such as mdma will be among party goers and will be used. they are warning people the

dangers of mixing drugs with alcohol. they are also advising people not to hesitate to call 911 if they need help. people can even contact police through twitter and instagram, by using the #mvpd. it appears a sixth person has been sickened by e. coli in marin county. health officials announced the sixth suspected case yesterday, after confirming five others earlier this week. the four children and two adults have either recovered or are in the process of getting better. scientists are performing dna finger printing on the bacteria to determine the strain. e. coli infections usually happen after people eat unpasteurized dairy products or undercooked meat. there are only 12 days left before the cooling-off period ends on october 10th for bart talks. both bart and the union say they do want to keep trains running and they were meeting until 7:30 last night. but they also say they are still far apart on the main

. welcome back. a live look over the bay this morning. mostly sunny skies. current temperatures from the mid-50s to low 60s. new this morning, another very strong earthquake has hit southwest pakistan, days after a major quake killed more than 350 people. the u.s. geological survey says this newest quake was a 6.8 magnitude and it hit just a few hours ago. we do not at this point have any reports of casualties. but on tuesday, the larger 7.7 magnitude quake destroyed almost every mud and brick house in that area. experts say today's quake was an after-shock and say more may come over the next few weeks. in this morning's weekly address, president obama says congress must pass a budget by monday night or risk crippling part of the nation's economy. >> in the next couple of days,

these republicans will have to decide whether to join the senate and keep the government open or create a crisis that will hurt people for the sole purpose of advancing their ideological agenda. >> yesterday, the democratic- controlled senate passed a temporary spending measure that would keep all government agencies running, while setting aside money for the affordable care act. president obama says it reduces costs for most people. he says nearly six in 10 uninsured americans will be able to buy coverage for $100 or less. in contra costa county, the affordable care act call center is preparing for about 4000 calls a day starting tuesday, when enrollment is set to begin. according to covered california, about 4 million people are eligible for obama care in california. about 400,000 of them live right here in the bay area. texas senator ted cruz, who launched the infamous 21-hour filibuster this week, is urging house members not to compromise with the president. >> obama care's the biggest job killer in this country.

millions of americans are hurting. millions of americans are struggling to find a job, being forced into part-time work or seeing their health insurance premiums sky rocket. >> we just received new video into our newsroom of house speaker john boehner arriving on capitol hill this morning. he is convening a special saturday meeting at this hour, with republicans to discuss their options. the house will reportedly vote later today on a plan to fund the government. but if no agreement is reached and there is a shutdown, men and women in the military would be paid with iou's. members of congress, however, would still get their paychecks. 41% of federal employees would be furloughed. all national park service sites would be closed. the bigger impact would come october 17th, if the debt ceiling is not raised, the government would then go into default. the obama administration plans to spend millions of dollars to get armed officers into schools across the nation. that decision comes in the wake of last year's deadly shooting masacre in newtown,

connecticut, which killed 26 people, 20 of them children. the department of justice says it will give nearly $45 million to fund 356 new school officer positions. newtown is going to be given money to fund two of those positions. critics of the san jose police department say the 40 new recruits who just graduated from the police academy may not stay with the city for long. ♪ >> 40 san jose police recruits and one officer from los gatos police department received their badges yesterday in a swearing-in ceremony. they graduated after six months of training, but the president of the poa is worried that those officers may soon be looking for jobs in other departments because they might be turned off by san jose's pension and benefits package. the horrific car crash that san francisco that killed a 16- year-old boy leaves many questions unanswered. kevin sand, a junior at lincoln high school, was riding in a gold mini van when a silver mercedes suv slammed right into them, his family in the car, a

catering truck, and a parked car yesterday morning. sand died at the scene. his mother and sister were seriously injured. witnesses say the mercedes was speeding at the time of the accident. the 58-year-old driver was taken into custody and questioned. investigators say she faces at least one count of vehicular manslaughter. owners of a san jose bar are stepping up security after two female customers were slipped a date rape drug, then sexually assaulted. both women were in the nicoll rose lounge in the downtown area different nights this month. according to police, the next thing women remember was waking up the next day, one in her bed, the other in a hotel room. police say they had been sexually assaulted, apparently by someone who had slipped a powerful sedative right into their drinks, but went unnoticed in the crowd. >> i don't think it takes a lot. you know how you sit together in a bar somewhere. somebody could drop it off, or hey, let me buy you a drink,

dump it in there. >> the owners of the small lounge plan to install a dozen surveillance cameras this weekend. they are also instructing staff and customers to keep a close eye on drinks. the nickel rose is popular with students from nearby dominican college. in about 40 minutes from now, a report is going to be released, examining the wildfire that killed 19 firefighters in arizona in june. lightning sparked that fire, which was then fueled by monsoon storm winds. the death toll was the highest from a u.s. wildfire in at least half a century. an independent team from florida is going to turn in its review of fire fighting procedures, communications and logistics, but officials say it will not assign blame. at least $6 million in damage. that is the early estimate from a massive hay fire still burning this morning in yolo county. the fire started thursday night at a hay exporting company, called hay kingdom, in the city of winters. the flames were fueled by as much as 20,000 tons of hay and

fanned by red flag winds that whipped through yolo county. the company exports hay, primarily to asia to feed dairy and beef cows. san francisco firefighters say a compost fire near candlestick park may take months before it burns out. the fire broke out yesterday on carroll avenue near engel street. firefighters say gas and heat generated from the compost ignited the fire. crews are going to stay on scene for as long as those flames are smoldering. we are following some breaking news in the south bay. chp issued a severe traffic alert on southbound interstate 680 near east capital expressway in san jose. it is due to an injury accident. chp says right and center lanes are. people are being urged at this hour to use alternative routes. the golden state warriors have cleared a major hurdle in their attempt to move across the bay. the team wants to build a new arena on san francisco's waterfront at piers 30 and 32, next to the bay bridge.

yesterday, governor brown signed a bill that clarifies the approval process for the project. a three-person panel will have the final say on whether the project complies with strict rules for waterfront development. giants fans are being asked to support another team's concession workers at at&t ball park. the workers demonstrated outside the ball park last night, saying they are protesting a wage freeze and what they claimed is limited access to health insurance as well. they are also demanding job security from the giants' foodservice contractors center plate. the company says it is making a fair offer and that the union is being uncooperative. the oakland a's have grabbed homefield advantage in the first round of the playoffs and tickets are selling fast. grab them when you can. with the 8-2 win against seattle last night, the a's did secure homefield in the division series and as of yesterday, only about a thousand seats were left for game 1. those will go fast.

. three visually impaired swimmers are going to tackle the waters of san francisco. they are from arizona, but here to swim in the annual alcatraz invitational tomorrow. 17-year-old max ashton, 19-year- old katie tuffy, and tanner robertson, all members of the first blind team to compete in the event. they are going to have sighted guides that will help them tackle the challenges of swimming without vision. >> it's kind of adding a little bit more uncertainty, like how far do i have left to go, how far have i gone. >> keeping direction, keeping a straight line. >> ashton and robinson are no strangers to grand adventures. the two climbed kilimanjaro a few years ago. they are trying to raise money and awareness for the california blind children. the cal bears go on the road this weekend. coming off a bye week, the bears will take on the oregon ducks. kickoff set for 7:30 tonight. while cal leads the all-time series, the ducks have won the
